I realised yesterday, that Topshop was not the best place to go when feeling stressed as it was half term break and sale had launched. I avoided the sale and went upstairs and spotted an over sized t-shirt with a NYC skyline print on it and a cardigan by concession brand, Yuki.
Today, I came across some beautiful photographs for the Prix Pictet award. The award is unique because it focuses on photography and issues regarding sustainability. This years theme was based on impurity, excess, contamination, absence, control and was based on water related themes. The winner was Nadav Kander whose subject was based on the two China's, the ancient one that relied on the old waterways and the new transition of the country's rapidly expanding industry. His series entitled 'Yangtze, The Long River' is beautiful but also sad and depicts the country at a crossroads.
The full series can be found here and it really is quite thought provoking work. His work is mesmerising and while you're on his website, check out the other series, in particular 'Chernobyl, Half Life'.
I'm ill and ended up having to miss the trip to the lake district. A bit stressed out about it but never mind.

That image series looks like it took a lot of integrity to create - Chinese culture, both modern and historical, is a new way to look at the world other than the usual American perspective. Thanks for showing us that!
ReplyDeletegreat sweater!
ReplyDeletei try to remind myself that stress is always a momentary thing. remember hun it will pass! this time next week you will be feeling much better. i try to go to bed really early so i can wake up earlier, as doing things in the morning feels so much fresher and more productive than late at night where they feel rushed and panicky! i really hope you feel a bit better,i'm sure the relaxing free days will be worth it! take care!xx
ReplyDeleteHomemade cookies are my coping mechanism...
ReplyDeleteThe skyline shirt is very cool.
love the cardigan!!! Cute blog!!!
ReplyDeleteoh yeah i love the t shirt. Can it be worn as a dress? i like versatile piece of clothes.
ReplyDeletestress? I just drink lots of coffee, and be like a robot and not think about things too much. When everything is finished id like to be in a coma and sleep all day. Hows that sound? hihihii.
i wish you good health in times like this.
have a great day!

Those photographs were so good they made me shiver. Every one I looked at struck at memories ad thoughts - it's like he's taken photos of what I was thinking all the time I was there. Fantastic - where did you find the information about the prize?
ReplyDeleteAhhh New York skyline... memories (^-^)
oh, i hope you feel better now. by the way, i like the color and the slouchy cozy look of that cardi. and the Sunday Picnic photo is just beautiful! the photographer really caught the mood of the scenery. wonderful shot! thanks for sharing this one :)
ReplyDeletei beat stress my taking a lot of sleep and food! and of course, going shopping! hehe
I'm really bad at coping with stress. I get anxious easily and then I get completely overwhelmed if I have too many things on my mind at once. Recent example. I hate my day job so I'm always stressed out about it and my husband is being sued for a car accident that wasn't his fault but we can't prove it exactly. And now I have a horrible mystery stench in my downstairs that's sending me over the edge. Three things bothering me at once= heart attack! lol
ReplyDeleteCupcakes always help when I'm feeling stressed - or cupcake batter. And sometimes just a canister of frosting. Another way I cope with stress...music. I just lie down with my iPod on and kind of drift away.
ReplyDeleteHope you start feeling better, darling! :)
That t-shirt looks awesome, and paired with the cardigan, you're one trendy diva! I would personally go for a darker color if I were to buy the cardigan. I practically live in the desert, clothes ALWAYS get dirty. Plus, darker colors make you look thinner ;)
ReplyDeleteHalf term streses me out haha. I HATE shopping when it's really busy.
ReplyDeleteYuki makes some lovely things but they are fairly expensive D: I said I wouldn't care about price after I got a job, but I still do.
Hope you're okay, I can get quite stressed too (especially with all these driving tests) and it doesn't help that I stay up late on the internet! My way of coping is a combination of my Sims game, a bit of knitting and lots of US television. I perhaps internalise it a bit too much, but try to leave a few vague Facebook status updates. At least you'll be able to get all your work done at your own pace, and hopefully things won't seem so bad. Love the cardi btw, but the concessions can be rather pricey.
ReplyDeletei love the cardigan. hope you feel better soon and take care. xo
ReplyDeletei do really like the cardi but i agree prob not worth £59! hope you feel better soon, you did the right thing not going, much better to have a chilled weekend instead :)
ReplyDeleteYou're lovely with your cardi !
ReplyDeleteI wish you had more time for writing! I know how important that is to learn, but I love your blog :))
ReplyDeletexoxo
I so love the last picture there. Wow...
ReplyDeleteYou've got a very cool T-shirt too.
Its so good to get your note, too.
I have given you an award! Check it Out!
ReplyDelete~tati~
hi!! i love all your outfits and don´t worry you can do it yourself!! =)
ReplyDeleteThe cardi looks amazing; but the price is a little steep!
ReplyDeleteSaw your photos from the previous post and you look so cute in your tiered skirt!
PS/ Hope you could help... What colors do you usually pair with pale denim?! I'm at lost; and I don't want to keep wearing them the same way!
Thanks Winnie!
Hope you're feeling a little more calm and relaxed. This might sound funny, but I downloaded breathing exercises onto my ipod to do when I get stressed. Yoga is great if you have the time for it. Don't worry about missing your trip - Who wants to be wet and cold and dirty and tired up the side of a mountain anyway! ;)
ReplyDeleteI like your cam! So pretty :)
ReplyDeleteHey hun, thanks for the sweet comment you left on my blog :)
ReplyDeleteLove the cardigan, but £59 is a bit overpriced! You could get something similar much cheaper somewhere else. That tee is super cute though!

Great photos. You look fantastic. Have a good day. Cheers!
ReplyDeletethey are both great pieces shame you couldnt buy it .. but i definitely know how what that feels like :(
ReplyDeleteThe topshop sale *sigh* reason I am broke haha! Love that top and cardi, even if it was abit overpriced haha :) ♥
ReplyDelete£59 is just silly for a cardigan.. even if it it is lovely and drapey. Love the t-shirt though - you should go back and see if it's still there - if it is, it's fate and you should buy it. That's my rule.
ReplyDeleteTopshop is just not the place for when you are feeling stressed out when the sales are on. The jumble of clothes just makes my head hurt on a good day! :) x
Great blog. I love your cardi!
ReplyDeletei was browsing through that series earlier! there are some really interesting photos :)
ReplyDeletehmm dealing with stress? i would watch an asiandrama.. hihi or i would take daytime naps (A) love the oversized shirt! im into oversized things lately haha
ReplyDeleteOh I'm sorry you're stressed, Winnie! I think you made a great decision to stay home and go at your own speed. I try to mitigate stress by doing yoga and carving out time on my own- but I'm not very disciplined and usually end up making myself sick before I realize I need to slow things down.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love those photographs: intriguing subject matter and gorgeous compositions and color. Thanks for sharing the link.
I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing weekend!
Hope you have a great Halloween!
ReplyDeletegood on you for recognising your need to take a break.. you'll have plenty of other opportunities to see your friends, you could even organise a day out yourself when you're feeling back on form. to de-stress i generally spend a day with my family/boyfriend going to my favourite restaurants and ambling in parks :)
ReplyDeletei went to westfield today and it was full of half term TERRORS. my dad was practically running out of there by the end of the day haha xoxo
aww don't be stressed dear . well , if i'm stressed , i prefer to stay at home and watch some good movies . or may be go to cinema :) i love that cardigan . thanks for sharing the beautiful pic . have a nice weekend and halloween !
ReplyDeleteWinnie, you always leave the sweetest comments. Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm sorry to hear you're been feeling stressed. I can relate cause I'm really stressed out with work right now. I cope by doing nothing, watching a lot of tv, and eating. I try to do things to keep my mind off the stress and relax instead.
ReplyDeleteI think you made the right decision by not going on the retreat. I know I've made some poor decisions in the past about going somewhere and no focusing on my school work and I always end up paying for it in the end by pulling all nighters and getting a bad grade. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoyed the weekend and was able to get a lot done. And happy halloween :)
Goodluck with all your study, I think its a wise idea not to go on the trip. I don't deal with stress very well myself so I'd like to know some tips actually. I have faith in you I'm sure everything will work out for you. Also, I passed on an award to you on my blog.
