This is probably one of my favourite blog posts ever. Mostly because it's one I had a lot of fun putting together. It all started when my grandma brought round some photos for my mom and among them, was this photograph of my mom (seated) and one of my aunts. There is such charm with old vintage photographs and they are just extra special when they are of people you know. The photos were taken c.1963 in Hong Kong. I adore the little bit of blush added to their cheeks and lips.

Armed with this photo, I hunted around the house for some old photos that I recalled seeing when I was little of my dad and his family. It's so strange seeing my other grandparents look so young! Those woven basket chairs seen above and below are so incredibly 60s. Must have been quite standard for family photos! This photo would have been taken in 1960.

I found more photos of my dad, chilling at the beach next to a little boat with his little bucket of sand. Cute huh? I love the raggedy edge of these photos and they double up as a postcard on the back!
Lastly, a group photo of my dad, my uncle and my two aunts. Their little white socks are adorable. My aunts in Hong Kong like to keep up with me on this blog and I think this will definitely be a surprise when they read it later!

Vintage photos always make me think of a time long gone but these are so incredibly sentimental. They remind me that my parents had very different lives growing up in Hong Kong, compared to my sisters and I in England! Incredible.

What great photos! I love looking at old pictures.
ReplyDeleteI love looking at old photos! I can definitely see a resemblance between you and your grandmother! I love the cute little outfits your aunts are wearing, especially the socks and shoes!! x

Amazing! I never got a chance to see my grandparents young in pics. They had my dad pretty late in life. He's the only and youngest son they have. Great post!
ReplyDeleteWow very vintage, I like the one of your Dad in front of the little boat. I imagine children in those days never had any fun for some reason (probably because of the Wild Swan type books I've read! haha).
ReplyDeleteThese are such beautiful pictures. I love the way old photos look, They are way better when you know the people in them.
ReplyDeleteadorable pictures!

ReplyDeleteThese are so cool, I had so much fun digging out family snaps in Jamaica and learning about what life was like back then. I have no idea what future generations will make of mine, what with the crazy amount of Facebook photos and the like. What I like about these photos is that they're definitely special, taken rarely and very real.
ReplyDeleteI love the patterns in the first pic.
These are great pics - so much history there. Would love to visit HK. xx

I love these photos. One of my favorite photos is of my grandparents wedding. It was sent to Hong Kong to be colourised and her wedding dress was tinted the wrong colour!
ReplyDeleteI did a post full of family pics as well a few months ago, think you've inspired me to break the blog rules and repost them tomorrow.
I love the Chinese vintage photos too, haha! Some of them were a little ridiculous - with the outfits and everything. You have such a cute family! The borders were definitely the best aesthetic quality. They feel so much cooler than the standard rectangle/square shape that photographs have now!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great post! Old photographs certainly brings back some sort of.. Nostalgia; when you look at the yellowed photographs; the frayed edges; something which we seem to lack especially with the widespread use of digital cameras!
ReplyDeleteAww.. I think that these pictures certainly meant alot to your parents; like you've said; it's so much different; nack in HK and in England!
They're like twins lol very the same. I really like to see old pictures of my mum and my dad way back then=0
ReplyDeleteI adore old photos! Now that I've seen these I want to dig up some of my grandparents/parents :)

These are adorable! It is strange seeing people as younger, especially when they seem the same age all their life! It's hard to think that there is a younger person inside of an older one, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are such beautiful pictures! You're lucky to have such great captures like these. Did you add in blush and lip touch up yourself?

ReplyDeleteahhhhhhhhh baby pics!! so cute
ReplyDeleteThat's so lovely !
ReplyDeleteThose pics are fabulous !
They're so fabulous! Even though you point out that the kids' lifestyle would be different in Hong Kong compared to Europe, somehow I'm reminded of old pics of my family. I think there is something about children at that age that is charmingly universal!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post. They are so stunning. I always love looking at old photos. Its one of my favourite things to do and there is nothing quite like it. Its interesting especially when your family is from a different country. My mum is from England and came to Australia as a young girl with her family and whenever I see my English cousins it always makes me think how different life could have been.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! and even with pencil coloured pictures :D
