If I'm not buying clothes, I'm buying beauty products and lately, I've been really interested in skincare. Skincare can be expensive so before I commit to buying anything, I always like to browse online, scope out reviews, try samples and ask friends (aka Daniela my beauty guru). For years, I have used MakeupAlley to read real customer reviews for all kinds of beauty products and two items that have had consistently good reviews are the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum and the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream.

The Advanced Night Repair is a great product (also championed by the lovely Gemma) and my favourite out of the two. I use a few drops at night before I apply any moisturiser and it really helps to boost moisture levels - especially after cleansing your face. I've been using it for just over a week so it's hard for me to make any real judgements but I have noticed more even skin tone and I'm hoping it will help to fade acne scars too. So far, my skin has been loving it and I actually really look forward to using it at night.
The Elizabeth Arden cream is a sticky balm which has the consistency of thick Vaseline. This is 100% coming on a flight with me this Summer as it's a brilliantly versatile product. It's a common misconception that this is a moisturiser but it's more of a protective balm which intensively moisturises and used for on-the-spot treatment, great for the unpredictable British weather. So far, I've used it for lips, cuticles and drier areas on my face. Some people hate the medicinal scent but it doesn't really bother me (growing up in a Chinese household, I have experienced far worse scents from Chinese herbal medicine!) however an unscented one is also avaliable. My cream was part of a set which included the 8 hour tinted lip treatment which I've been using in conjunction with my usual Revlon lip stain. So far, both products have been living up to the hype but I do find the 8 hr cream less useful on a day-to-day basis as my skin isn't always dry. I'm definitely planning some more beauty posts as I enjoy writing about them but in the meantime, what are your skincare favourites?

The problem with me with skincare

and those that are prescribed by my dermatologist.
I'm not that keen on trying new ones.

ReplyDeleteomg...so funny, when i first saw this post, i thought Estee Lauder was doing a high tea kinda promotion until i realized there was no food involved and only beauty products, hahaha...but i love the colorful rack and cupcake holders, soo cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently using Estee Lauder products as well, as recommended by a friend, and i like it. I'm using their liquid foundation from the double wear line, their re-nutriv loose powder, and this spot light skin tone perfector thingie, which basically works like a facial illuminator. So far i'm liking their stuff and i got that advanced night repair in a sample size but i've not used it yet. I might give it a go and try using it like the way you mentioned, hehe
I used to love the eight hour cream and used it a lot when i lived in London as i had super dried lips. I dont use it anymore because of the overload of beauty products and brands that i'm exposed to in HK, lol...as i'm sure you know!!! ;)

ReplyDeleteI'm addicted to checking MakeupAlley before buying new products too, it's so helpful to see totally honest reviews from so many people in one place! I'm a huge fan of the 8 Hour Cream, but I mostly use it for lips & hands, it's too thick for my greasy skin, though it's good for when you have a cold around your nose to stop it getting dry & flaky. I keep hearing such good things about the Advanced Night Repair, so I shall hopefully get around to trying that out soon!

ReplyDeleteI never used to understand the 8 hour cream cult thing but I have been taking little squeezes from it when I pass an Elizabeth Arden counter now and may be a bit hooked! The Estee Lauder sounds like such a lovely product. Alas nothing really helps my skin :(
