Bubble tea is one of my favourite things ever. When I was in Hong Kong, we stumbled upon this Taiwanese cafe called TeaWood in Causeway Bay (there are 3 in HK). Bubble tea originates from Taiwan so I expected this place to tick all the boxes and they had plenty of savoury foods, desserts and drinks to choose from. Bubble tea involves a tea-based drink with large tapioca pearls at the bottom and Teawood's drinks are huge! It's not to everyone's tastes as there are a few people who I just can't seem to convert to the milk-based drink and tapioca pearls (sometimes you can get fruity teas and fruit based jelly instead) but I love the stuff. It is clearly gaining popularity over here as even in Birmingham where I live, there are lots of places which offer the Taiwanese drink. We couldn't resist ordering the Mango Honey Toast to share just so we could use their forks that look like mini pitchforks. It's a great little cafe to take a break and catch up with people. Now I just wish there were more dessert places like this in the UK...

ReplyDeleteOMG...what a coincident! i went to Teawood in TST on Wednesday night for dinner after a movie so it was quite late, like 21:45, lol....i ordered the dinner set meal and so i didn't try bubble tea. The dinner was so so but i definitely wanna try their bubble tea now!!! I remember i loveed bubble tea when i first came back to HK almost 8 years ago. I haven't had it for a year or two so thanks for the reminder;) My fave is the taro flavor with the tapioca!!!
ReplyDeleteMy friends in Denmark told me that bubble tea is gaining popularity as of late as well. Of course, they said the ones in HK are the best! But hey, at least Europe is catching up, hehe
But i gotta say, that toast dessert in this post looks sooo delish! What camera do you use? The quality of the photos are sooo good!
p.s. have you been to Taiwan? I went there once and i bet you go crazy for all the varieties of buble teas there!!! And of course, the cheap price as well, lol

Bubble tea is so much fun!! I first tried it in Berlin (it is everywhere there!) and now there are a few turning up around London as well!

I still haven't tried this yet, I feel like I am totally missing out with everyone else raving about it! I think I'm going to have to hunt some down next time I'm in London as I have never seen any in Leicester. This post is making me so hungry... I love sweet toast & that one looks like it was incredible, also that chocolate (oreo?) milkshake... *droool*...

ZOMG that toast looks like the birthplace of the unicorn. I still haven't been because there's just been crazy lineups to go inside. Such is HK life eh? My favourite flavor is taro for bubble tea though. :)

I've never managed to try bubble tea, and it sounds like the fruit versions are more likely to appeal to me, but damn the Mango Toast looks AMAZING. Your posts forever make me hungry, and yet more desperate to get myself to HK.
