As a blogger, I'm always making mental notes of places with potential for blog posts and I've been meaning to take photos on the garden terraces at the new Library of Birmingham for a while. The terrace is always buzzing with visitors - some who are simply taking a lunch break to others who are new to the city and have heard it's the place to be. It seems funny to me that it's a tourist hot spot but then I remember visiting New York Library years ago and casually wandering through the reading rooms, envious of all those studying at the desks by those little lamps (but also totally singing the Ghostbusters theme tune in my head). Ok, so the two might not quite compare in scales of grandeur but the principles are the same, libraries are fascinating spaces and all kinds of people pass through them. I've spent a great deal of time in libraries as a kid and of course as a student (where I used to build a fort of books around me while I was working). It's interesting to think that in the digital age we live in, libraries are obviously still very important but with library closures and cuts in funding, I do wonder what kind of spaces libraries will be in the future.
Libraries are some of my favourite spaces to be in. Some of them have the best architecture. There is a 'Harry Potter room' at my old uni's library, and I used to just go in there to gawk rather than revise!

I love libraries! Just wish I had more time to spend in them checking out the books. I love the outfit especially the necklace, such a great back drop too.
ReplyDeleteThat room sounds amazing! My old uni library had wooden ladders which you had to wheel around, I believe the library had been unchanged since the 20s. I miss it!

ReplyDeleteAww thank you! I haven't been to study or find any books at a library in a long time. This one is great because it encourages people to visit the terraces - so there is always a reason to visit even if you don't have any books in mind!

ReplyDeleteI love them too but I just don't have much of a reason to visit them these days but the new Birmingham library is great because the terraces kind of encourage everyone to visit, regardless of whether you need a book or not! It's a great location for photos for sure! It's another one I've banked up as a place to shoot outfit posts! ;)
